I was presented with the challenge of creating portraits and a couple of spreads using local political activists without using a run-of-the-mill approach.  I wanted something that wasn’t dry, which is hard to accomplish with a non-professional model.  After brainstorming with the photographer, we came up with the idea to shoot it super stark/overexposed and in black and white. This approach nullified the need for lots of makeup and color coordination while helping to create a hero type portrait looks.
