When we started talking about doing this story on premier hockey in Virginia I immediately thought of how we were going to shoot this.  Hockey, a rough sport that is not ever talked about as much as football, basketball or baseball in this area.  Not a flashy sport which is photographed often.  I started my research and based my approach to this like I would an advertisement for a sports drink or athletic shoes.  Take a series of high definition portraits right after a game so you can feel the effort they put into the game and see their sweat.  I also had the story and wrote the headline based on a quote. “Humility and Focus.”  That quote became the theme of the portraits, so I made sure everyone was stoic and confident in their expressions.
